The city of Tian Jin — 150 km east of Beijing, on the edge of the Bohai Gulf in the north of the Yellow Sea. A population of 10 million, and 24,000 hand-picked students at one of the oldest universities in China. Since its inception in 1985 the choir has united the voices of rising stars in science, business and law. Performing both symphonic concerts and televised extracts from operetta, it has become one of China’s most prestigious vocal ensembles. Last summer it gained international recognition in winning a host of prizes at the Young Choirs Festival in Hong Kong. At ease with all repertoires, particularly with the best of contemporary choral works, it excels in interpreting Chinese and Asian music. For Polyfollia it will draw on the vast wealth of Far Eastern cultures and traditions to take us on an amazing journey of sound in no less than 14 languages. Don’t miss it.
