Kalamazoo - population 320 000 - home of the prestigious Western Michigan University, and not far from the Great Lakes. That’s the place to study when you want to become a jazz musician in the USA. Its list of famous graduates includes Bobby McFerrin, for example. Every year Steve Zegree and Duane Davis, who head up the Jazz Department, form various groups with the best of the graduating students, under the umbrella of Gold Company. Glittering talents for whom the alumni are more than happy to write new arrangements in a variety of styles. Naturally, it’s the 2009 crop which will perform at Polyfollia this summer – six vocalists and five instrumentalists. Attention all jazz fans, some great swing is coming to town!
